AI Visibility Checklist

For schools, universities, edtech companies and course creators.

Cover and a sample page of the AI Visibility Checklist by Mile SEO.

The problem

People now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot which school, course or app to choose. Most have never checked what those assistants say about them.

When an answer is wrong, the cause is usually a blocked crawler, a page the assistant can’t quote, or an old fact on someone else’s site.

This checklist covers each of these in six short steps, from your first check to tracking your progress.

What’s inside

  1. 01Find out where you stand
  2. 02Let AI crawlers in
  3. 03Write pages AI can quote
  4. 04Fix your facts at the source
  5. 05Get mentioned where AI looks
  6. 06Track your progress

Three items, as they appear in the checklist

  • 01.1

Write down 20 questions your audience asks

“Best international school in Vienna”, “best app to learn German”, “is [your name] any good”. Mix questions with and without your name.

  • 02.1

Check your robots.txt for AI crawlers

Blocking search bots like OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot keeps you out of their answers. Test it free with the Mile SEO AI Crawler Checker.

  • 04.3

Correct wrong facts where the assistant found them

Open the cited source and ask the site to update it. Changing only your own site will not fix an answer built from theirs.

Frequently asked questions

Is AI visibility different from SEO?
It builds on SEO. Most AI assistants search the web before they answer, so pages that rank well and read clearly are the ones most likely to be cited.
How often do AI answers change?
Often. The same question can get a different answer each week and from each assistant. One check tells you little; a monthly check shows the trend.
Can you pay to be named in ChatGPT’s answers?
No. Where an assistant shows ads, they are labelled and kept apart from the answer. Being named in the answer itself depends on your pages and what other sites say.
