SEO Checklist for Course Creators
For creators who sell courses on Teachable, Kajabi, Thinkific, Podia, Udemy and similar platforms.

The problem
Most course sales come from rented attention: a platform’s algorithm, an ad account or one video that took off. When that slows down, nothing else brings people in.
Often the sales page is the only page, so only people who already know your name can find the course.
This checklist fixes that in your platform’s settings, with no code. It also covers YouTube, marketplaces, reviews and AI answers.

Three items, as they appear in the checklist
- 02.2
Keep lessons, member areas and checkout out of search
Lessons behind a login should stay there. Check that free preview lessons do not create thin copies of your sales page.
- 03.2
Write the course outline as page text
Modules, lessons and what each one teaches. Search engines and AI assistants can’t read a curriculum that only exists in a video or an image.
- 04.1
Give each module a free topic page
It’s how people who don’t know your name yet find you. Answer the question in full, then show where the course goes further.

Frequently asked questions
- Should I sell my course on a marketplace or on my own site?
- Many creators do both. A marketplace brings buyers but sets the price and keeps the customer. Your own site keeps the margin and the list, but you bring the traffic.
- How long does SEO take to bring in course sales?
- Usually three to six months before new pages rank, and longer in crowded topics. Pages that answer one specific question tend to rank first and send readers to the course.
- Do I need a blog to sell courses through search?
- Not a blog as such. You need pages that answer what your learners search for. A few thorough pages do more than a weekly post nobody is looking for.
