SEO Checklist for Educational Websites
For study guides, revision sites, teacher resource sites and education publishers.

The problem
Big education sites lose track of their own pages. Years of content pile up, much of it slowly loses traffic, and several pages compete for the same topic.
Publishing more feels like the answer, but it usually makes the problem worse.
This checklist starts with listing what you have. Then it covers merging, refreshing and linking those pages, and giving worksheets pages of their own.

Three items, as they appear in the checklist
- 03.2
Merge them into the best page
Move the useful parts into the strongest page, then redirect the others to it with a 301. Merging usually recovers more than publishing new pages.
- 04.1
Compare clicks year on year for every page
Pages losing clicks for six months or more are fading. Put them on the refresh list.
- 06.1
Give every worksheet its own web page
Title, age or level, topic, a preview and a short description. A bare PDF ranks badly and cannot be tracked.

Frequently asked questions
- How often should educational content be updated?
- When the facts, the syllabus or the search results change, not on a fixed schedule. Check your most important pages at least once a year, and before each exam season.
- Do AI Overviews take traffic from education sites?
- For simple definitions, often yes. Practice questions, worked examples and worksheets still earn clicks, because people need to use them, not just read a summary.
- Does Google penalise sites with lots of thin pages?
- Not as a penalty. But many weak pages can lower how Google rates the whole site, which is why improving or removing them often lifts the pages that remain.
